The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra serves the residents of our communities by providing excellent orchestral programs that entertain, educate, and enhance quality of life. For nearly a century, the WSO has provided live classical and pops music to the Upper Ohio Valley and throughout West Virginia. MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator is responsible for general support of the WSO’s marketing efforts, with a focus on social media and email marketing. This position reports to the Marketing & Operations Director. This is a part-time position, up to 20 hours a week paid at $15/hour, beginning the week of September 1. 

As a key member of the WSO team, the qualified candidate will have:

  1. Positive, entrepreneurial spirit and a hands-on, detail-oriented work ethic
  2. Ability to work with people of a wide variety of ages, abilities, cultural background and musical knowledge
  3. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects with minimal supervision
  4. Open-minded, willingness to learn, and a deep commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Access

Responsibilities

  1. Social Media
    • Create, schedule, and share content on the WSO’s Facebook and Instagram in line with the brand voice
    • Create and implement long-term social media campaigns 
    • Respond to messages, comments, and tags on the WSO social media pages
    • Work with WSO staff and musicians to coordinate behind-the-scenes filming and other content
    • Assist marketing manager with maintaining digital ad campaigns 
  2. Email 
    • Create and maintain consistent email marketing, including writing copy, creating images, and targeting key audiences 
  3. Marketing Assistance
    • Provide general assistance to the Marketing Director in all areas of marketing such as grassroots marketing, content creation, and concert promotion
    • Assist in writing and distributing press releases 
    • Assist in maintaining the WSO website
    • Attend WSO concerts and events as assigned by the Marketing & Communications Manager
  4. Brand Awareness
    • Work with the Marketing & Communications Manager on strategies to build brand awareness throughout the Ohio Valley region
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience creating and maintaining a digital presence
  • Demonstrated ability to create digital content, including short-form videos and social media images
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to stylistic guidelines, both written and visual
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Ability to handle deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of and/or passion for orchestral music a plus
  • Available to work nights and weekends
