WSO Announces Community Choir Screening

JOIN THE WSO COMMUNITY CHOIR!

To commemorate the 95th anniversary season “Your Community in Concert”, the Wheeling Symphony is creating the WSO Community Choir to perform on the Masterworks program in May 2025.

The 60-voice choir (SATB) will sing on a new work that the WSO is commissioning from Wheeling based composer, Dr. Matthew Harder, and will sing on Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2.

Recruitment for the choir will occur August-September and rehearsals will start in January 2025.  The choir will rehearse once per week leading up to the performance week. Rehearsals with the WSO will be on May 13-14 and performance on May 15, 2025.

To join the choir, you will need to complete an application form and attend an in-person screening OR submit a screening video.

Applications are due by September 21, 2024. The in-person screening is scheduled for September 28. To begin this process, complete this form.

Application Requirements:

  • Contact Information
  • Voice range (if known)
  • Screening Preference (in-person or video submission)
  • General Availability

After the application process is complete, we will be working to create a balanced ensemble based  on voice type (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass). There is limited space onstage, so we will need to  restrict the ensemble to a total of 60 voices.

As we embark on this momentous 95th anniversary season, the addition of the WSO Community  Choir promises to be a truly special highlight. This choir will not only elevate our Masterworks  program with the power of collective voices, but it will also deepen the connection between our  orchestra and the community we serve.

Your participation in this choir could be a transformative part of our shared musical journey,  making this historic season one that resonates far beyond the concert hall. We look forward to the  incredible impact this collaboration will have on our community and the legacy of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.
