Rachel Worby Scholarship Applications Announced

We are pleased to announce the 21st annual Rachael Worby Scholarship for exceptional music students in the Upper Ohio Valley. One high school student who will graduate in the spring of 2023 will be selected to receive $1,000 from the Rachael Worby Scholarship Fund to be used for educational purposes in the study of music at an institution of higher education. Students must reside and attend school in West Virginia counties of Ohio, Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Tyler or Wetzel; Ohio counties of Belmont or Jefferson; or Avella, McGuffey, Trinity or Washington School Districts in Pennsylvania. Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra participants who are in at least their second year as members may apply regardless of their place of residence.

The selection process will include the following:

  • Saturday, April 8, 2023: Applications submitted.  (Emailed on or before April 8, 2023.)  Written application, essay, video or audio recording, and two (2) letters of recommendation, at least one from a musician.
  • Saturday, April 22, 2023: Morning audition and interview at West Liberty University for finalists if necessary.
  • Friday, May 12, 2023: Presentation of theRachael Worby Scholarship at the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra Concert.

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of talent and prospective success as a music major at an institution of higher education. To access the application and submission directions, click here.
