Tips For Beginners

If you are a first-time visitor to the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, you may be unsure what to expect. We hope these tips are helpful:

What should I wear?

You’ll notice apparel ranging from business casual to after-five evening wear. Some people even choose to wear jeans.

When should I arrive at the Capitol Theatre?
It is best to arrive at least one hour before the scheduled performance begins. This leaves time for parking, picking up tickets, visiting the restroom and finding your seat. Concert Talk, a free intriguing and informative look at the music to be performed that evening, is held at 7 p.m. in the Capitol Theatre Ballroom for Masterworks performances.

What happens if I arrive late?
In consideration of the comfort and listening pleasure of the audience, patrons who arrive after the concert begins should wait to be seated at the back of the hall until an appropriate pause between pieces.

Do I need to know the music before I attend a performance?
No. It is a joy to listen to a piece of music for the first time. However, if you would like to know more, Concert Talk, a free intriguing and informative look at the music to be performed that evening, is held at 7 p.m. in the Capitol Theatre Ballroom before each Masterworks performance. Program notes on the music also are available on this web site and are printed in the evening’s program.

May I bring my wireless phone or pager?
All electronic and mechanical devices including pagers, cellular phones and wristwatch alarms, must be turned off before entering the hall. If you need to be reached in an emergency, please advise an usher and you will be located. Beeping cell phones and pagers can spoil a concert.

May I take pictures?
The taking of photographs or the recording of Wheeling Symphony Orchestra concerts is strictly prohibited.
